What Is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs when the body does not produce any or enough insulin leading to an excess of sugar in the blood.

Insulin is a hormone produced by pancreas, which helps the cells of the body use the glucose in food.

Types Of Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes: A body does not make insulin in this type of diabetes. It is diagnosed in children and young adults. They need to take insulin every day to stay alive.

Type 2 Diabetes: This is the most common type of Diabetes. Here the body does not make or use insulin well. Most often occurs in middle-aged and older people.

Gestational Diabetes: It develops in some women when they are pregnant. This type of diabetes goes away after delivery. They have a greater chance of developing type 2 diabetes, later in life.

Health Problems People With Diabetes Develop

Over time high blood glucose leads to problems such as:

  • Stroke
  • Kidney Diseases
  • Eye Problems
  • Dental Diseases
  • Nerve Damage
